Paralegal Monica R. Lash Featured in "Separate Not Equal | Minnesota's Integration Story" Documentary
Seventy years ago, the historic Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court declared that separating children in schools by race was unconstitutional. In the years following, integration would be a slow-moving process and met with resistance.
Each state has its own integration story, and Minnesota's integration story began in 1971 with the pairing of Hale and Field Elementary Schools in Minneapolis. Moss & Barnett paralegal Monica Lash was one of the first students involved in the Hale and Field Elementary Schools pairing, and she, along with other students, staff, and community members, had the opportunity to participate and share their stories in the documentary, “Separate Not Equal | Minnesota’s Integration Story.”
"Separate Not Equal" will air as part of Twin Cities Film Fest 2024 on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 2:00-2:30 p.m. (CDT), at Marcus West End Cinema, 1625 West End Boulevard, St. Louis Park, MN. Director Derek Francis will be in attendance with a Q&A following the screening.
